Bringing together female thinkers for greater impact: Applications open for Women in Tech cohort of Apple Foundation Program

The Apple Foundation Program at RMIT provides a supportive environment for learners to build technical skills and confidence, connect with experts, and unlock future opportunities in technology.

Applications are now open for the Apple Foundation Program’s Women in Tech cohort, which will run for three weeks from 8 – 24 April and is open to women and individuals of diverse gender identities who are studying, have studied or work at RMIT.

Less than 30% of Australia’s technology workforce is made up of women, so it is important that women and gender diverse people have access to safe and supportive spaces where they can test and learn new skills in technology.

Women in Tech alumnus Sasha Nazareth said the program, in which learners solve a real-world challenge using Apple technology, opened her eyes to a career in the sector.

“I thought app development was just about coding, but when I joined the program, I realised it is about design, teamwork, and it was also so much fun.”

Fellow program alumnus Gwyneth Chua, who was new to app development when she joined the program, said the program provided an inclusive community for her to try new things.

“It's about being in a safe space filled with women from diverse backgrounds – some technical and some not technical, like myself. We all celebrated each other's successes, learned from each other, and collaborated to achieve the best outcomes possible.”
