Law student Dillon Stocks awarded Jillian Weaven Scholarship

The scholarship recognises Dillon Stocks’ commitment to education, leadership and creating positive change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

A proud Palawa man, Dillon is studying an Associate Degree in Legal Practice (Paralegal) in the College of Vocational Education.

The scholarship honours the legacy of Wiradjuri woman and former RMIT leader Jillian Weaven, whose dedication to education, equity and creating career pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continues to inspire future generations.

It supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying business or law and provides financial support, mentoring and professional development opportunities.

For Dillon, a future career in law is grounded in personal experience and a desire to help others navigate complex systems with confidence.

"My passion for law comes from lived experience, not theory," Dillon said.

I've experienced what happens when processes aren't followed and accountability is absent. That's why I want to build a career where I can advocate for people, ensure fairness and help create systems that are transparent and accessible.

Dillon was selected for the scholarship in recognition of his dedication to learning, leadership potential and commitment to creating positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Throughout his studies, he has been actively engaged with RMIT's Ngarara Willim Centre and has embraced opportunities to grow both academically and professionally.

In 2025, he was recognised as the College of Vocational Education Indigenous Student of the Year, acknowledging his outstanding commitment to his educational journey.

As the 2026 scholarship recipient, Dillon will receive $10,000 to support his studies, mentoring from an RMIT leader and a paid Work Integrated Learning (WIL) internship with RMIT's Workplace Relations and Employee Health Management team.

The internship will provide valuable experience across governance, policy, workplace relations and stakeholder engagement while helping him build practical skills for his future legal career.

His aspirations reflect the values that sit at the heart of the Jillian Weaven Scholarship: empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to pursue their ambitions, create opportunities for others and make a positive difference in their communities.
