From Ready, Set, Design to Posterist 2026: Keily Chng’s creative journey comes full circle

In the 2025 winter school holidays, Year 12 Point Cook Senior Visual Communication and Design student Keily Chng attended RMIT’s I Belong Equity Outreach Program Ready, Set, Design.

Part of a suite of targeted secondary school outreach initiatives for RMIT's Schools Network Access Program (SNAP) schools, Ready, Set, Design aims to build aspiration for tertiary education and encourage students from low socioeconomic communities to consider university as part of their future.

Fast-forward one year, and Keily is now thriving in her first year of the Associate Degree in Graphic Design at RMIT’s Brunswick campus.

Keily is supported by Gustavo Morales, a teacher in the Associate Degree who also ran the Graphic Design workshop at Ready, Set, Design in 2025. It was Gus who encouraged Keily to pursue her dream of working in the creative industries.

That encouragement has already paid off. Keily was recently announced as a winner of Posterist 2026, the fifth International Poster Exhibition, an international graphic design event organised in Istanbul, Türkiye. Her poster was selected from more than 800 submissions from around the world.

Spearheaded by the Department of Graphic Design in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University, Posterist 2026 celebrates emerging and established graphic design talent from across the globe.

For Keily, her passion for visual communication and design was already strong in high school, but Ready, Set, Design helped turn that passion into a clearer vision for her future.

I’ve always been really creative and wanted to make stuff that was my own … The Ready, Set, Design program consolidated my idea of wanting to study graphic design after school.

Now, Keily is also giving back to the program that helped shape her own pathway. She has recently joined RMIT’s I Belong Equity Outreach Program as a SNAP Champion, engaging with and connecting secondary school students through outreach programs like the one she attended herself.

For Keily, being on the other side of the outreach experience is an opportunity to encourage more students from low socioeconomic communities to see tertiary education as a pathway towards achieving their goals.

[Being a SNAP Champion] has given me a lot of opportunities and experiences to work with younger students, inspiring them by giving them the opportunity to see what it’s like to study at uni after high school … I didn’t think that I would get this chance, but now that I’ve had it, it’s really inspiring. It feels like everything was worth it or meant to be somehow.

Keily is now looking towards a future in the film, music or creative marketing industries, where she hopes to put her graphic design talent and passion to work.

From attending Ready, Set, Design as a Year 12 student, to studying graphic design at RMIT, winning an international design competition, and now inspiring the next generation of students as a SNAP Champion, Keily’s journey has come full circle.

The I Belong Equity Outreach Program is thrilled to have Keily on board as a SNAP Champion and looks forward to seeing where her creativity takes her next.
