Find your next read and support Indigenous literacy at the Great Book Swap

Browse hundreds of donated books, puzzles and board games across the City, Bundoora and Brunswick campuses from 15 to 17 September. Take home your find for a $2 to $10 donation, with funds raised supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s Community-led work.

Books have a way of bringing people together. They are shared between friends, passed on when bookshelves get crowded and recommended long after you turn the final page.

The Great Book Swap builds on that idea, bringing schools, universities, libraries and communities across Australia together to celebrate reading and raise funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

How the Great Book Swap works

Over the past few weeks, students and staff have donated books, puzzles and board games to stock the campus sale stalls.

Head to a campus stall, browse what is on offer and choose an item for a $2 to $10 donation. Cash, Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted.

If you cannot make it to a stall, or would prefer to make a financial contribution, you can visit RMIT's Great Book Swap fundraising page.

How your donation supports Indigenous literacy

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is a national, Community-led organisation that responds to requests for culturally relevant resources from remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities.

Its work includes providing books in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages, and supporting Communities to create and publish stories in languages of their choice.

Every $10 raised through the national Great Book Swap campaign helps gift one culturally relevant book to a child in a remote Community. The campaign aims to raise $250,000 in 2026 to help gift 25,000 books.

Last year, RMIT students and staff raised more than $12,600 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, with the contribution featured in the Foundation’s 2025 impact report.
