"I felt very privileged to be invited" – Fashion students showcase projects to HUGO BOSS

Two Bachelor of Fashion (Enterprise) students were given the astounding opportunity to showcase their projects to fashion giant HUGO BOSS.

Morgan Leahy was initially shocked when she was invited to showcase her project directly to over 60 HUGO BOSS Australia employees.

“All of my peers in the Bachelor of Fashion (Enterprise) are well-equipped with many creative skills and innovative minds, so I felt very privileged to be invited,” Morgan said.

RMIT’s partnership with HUGO BOSS Australia takes place during the third-year course ‘Fashion Enterprise Partnered Project’.

During the course, students self-select an industry-partnered project that focuses on retail, marketing or product development.

The students are then challenged to respond to a complex brief created by the industry partner, that requires strong research, technical and creative skills.

Morgan proposed an influencer collaboration of a resort-wear segment for BOSS Orange, one of HUGO BOSS’ signature brands in Thailand.

Although daunted at first, Morgan received a lot of praise for her ideas were described as engaging, fresh, and relevant to HUGO BOSS’ existing range.

Employees were enticed by the youthful rebrand demonstrated in her mood board.

Matthew Keighran, the Managing Director of HUGO BOSS Southeast Asia-Pacific, noted that both students’ presentations were of high standard.

“The ability to able to present your ideas is as crucial as your actual ideas,” Matthew said.

“It’s a very important skill to have in the fashion industry and both students did a strong job at not only generating fantastic ideas but also showcasing them.”

Dr Carolina Quintero Rodriguez, Lecturer for the Bachelor of Fashion (Enterprise), felt immense proud when two of her students were invited.

“It is a recognition of a successful course planning – from the course designers, coordinator, lecturers to the students themselves with their effort and enthusiasm,” Carolina said.

“The best part was some employees mentioned HUGO BOSS was actually developing something similar to the students’ proposal – an amazing acknowledgement to how the course aligns with the fashion industry.”

Operating since 2020, Bachelor of Fashion (Enterprise) is unique in Australian higher education in preparing domestic and international students for business-specific roles in the industry.

The program offers its students an innovative blend of flexible course options, industry speakers, micro-creds, and opportunities to solve real-world problems for industry-based businesses.

Other partnerships from the program include major brands such as Macpac NZ, Caprice Australia, Le Specs, David Jones and more.

“The program has already had an overwhelmingly positive impact for students as they begin internships and gain employment in graduate-level roles before completing their undergraduate program,” Carolina said.

“We’ve taken a few students from RMIT into the team, and they are great. It goes to show how practical the program is in an industry-level,” Matthew said.

When asked what Morgan had learned the most from the whole experience, she said that confidence was key.

“You have to step up in class and not be afraid to share ideas,” Morgan said.
