Keynote Presentation: AI Research- Choices and Stakes by Professor Julia Powles

Join Professor Julia Powles for a keynote exploring the global rise of AI and its impact on research and institutions. She’ll examine how AI has disrupted norms and decision-making since 2022, urging us to consider what we know, what we’ve missed, and how to navigate an AI-driven future.

Join us for the keynote presentation with Professor Julia Powles from the University of Western Australia, as she examines the global surge of artificial intelligence and its far-reaching consequences for researchers and institutions. Since its explosive emergence from San Francisco in 2022, AI has challenged established norms, disrupted decision-making, and reshaped the conditions under which research operates. With clarity and urgency, Professor Powles addresses the choices we now face—urging us to reflect on what we know, what we've overlooked, and how we move forward in an AI-infused world.

Prof. Julia Powles is a research leader and law professor known for her work on privacy, intellectual property, internet governance, and the law and politics of data, automation, and artificial intelligence.
