What is the RMIT Sports Academy?

The RMIT Sports Academy exists to deliver impact across three pillars:  Sport, Education, and Research. 

It partners closely with RMIT Colleges to create value for RMIT students, staff, and the broader community:

  • Excellence in Sports Performance
    Developing competitive athletes in strategically selected sports aligned with RMIT’s goals.
  • Work-Integrated Learning
    Embedding real-world student experiences into the Academy’s operations to build future-ready professionals.

    Driving innovation and evidence-based practice through interdisciplinary collaboration.

RMIT proudly competes in Basketball Victoria’s highly competitive BIG V League and the annual UniSport Nationals, the pinnacle of Australian intervarsity sport.

RMIT Tennis

Based at the RMIT Sports Centre at Bundoora campus, the program is known for its strong culture, high-level coaching and community partnerships with the Bundoora Tennis Club and Gripping Potential Tennis Coaching.

Other opportunities to compete for RMIT in tennis include UniSport Nationals.

RMIT Esports

The RMIT Sports Academy supports our competitive Esports program which operates from our dedicated Gaming Hub at City Campus.  Athlete performance in select games is strengthened by an expert coaching team, and the action is captured via our Sports Media Team and state of the art Livestream studio.

RMIT has a thriving Esports and Games scene that is fun and inclusive.  Get involved via RMIT Esports and Games Club.

Work Integrated Learning

The RMIT Sports Academy provides students with opportunities to gain relevant, practical experience in their field of study in a fun and professional environment.  Students can contribute on-field and off-field - at games, events, training sessions and key moments throughout the season.

Available opportunities include:

  • Health Sciences – myotherapy, chiropractic, Chinese medicine, osteopathy.
  • Media and Communication.
  • College of Business.
  • Education – Coaching, clinics.
  • Exercise Science – Strengthening and conditioning, game analytics.

Thank you to the Redbacks community for taking a chance and allowing me to join the program as a Maths and Stats student at RMIT University with no reputation in even junior basketball… I’ve learned so much and appreciate how the team has trusted my way of analysing the game.
