“We’re all like a family” – How students find a community in clubs

Whether you’re finding your feet at the start of semester or looking for a bit of spark to your university experience, joining a club is a perfect way to make the most out of your time at university.

With over 160 student-led clubs to choose from, there really is something for everyone at RMIT.

Whether you're a thrill-seeker, want a space to meet new people or just indulge in something you love – RMIT has a club or society to suit your style.

In the past, clubs have offered the opportunity for the Indian community to find a home and celebrate their culture, and for Malaysian students to get involved in breathtaking road trips.

Last year, Indian Club member Tanay shared what being a member of the Indian Student Society means to him.

“It feels like a privilege! As Indians, our parents teach us to take our culture with us wherever we go in life.”

“We’re all like a family, we do all the festivals that we celebrate back home (maybe even more)!”

Campus Fest

New and returning students celebrated Campus Fest last week with the opportunity to meet many of the clubs on offer.

There was a party atmosphere on the City campus with live music, free food, and activations on display while clubs showcased their offerings.

Students speak to each other at a club stall. Campus Fest offered the perfect chance for students to learn about a range of different clubs and societies..

Alicia, Hong Kong Student Association

We really want to try get most of the Hong Kong students at RMIT to join so we can give them events to attend.

“That way they can get to know each other and also make more likeminded friends from Hong Kong.”

Andrew, KPOP

“We are all about expanding the KPOP culture entertainment as a whole to RMIT and the general public,” he said.

“Our type of events are movie screenings, drama reactions, trivia and debate.”

“Our next event is our debate night, which is loosely replicating some popular reality TV show and just some comedy shows that you would expect from KPOP idols.”
