"This scholarship helped me be stronger and happier" – Scholarship recipients share their stories

Semester 2 scholarship applications have now opened and are available until June 14. Here's how they have helped our students excel.

External circumstances can adversely affect students' ability to put their best foot forward.

Scholarships are an invaluable support system designed to empower RMIT students throughout their academic journey, alleviating financial burdens on students so they can focus on the things that really count.

There are a multitude of scholarships available for domestic students with a range of circumstances to support their personal growth and academic achievements, which have made a remarkable difference in the lives of numerous RMIT students.

Here are some testimonials from recipients of RMIT scholarships, providing excellent insight into why these grants are so significant.

Three students who received the Equity Notebook Grant in Semester One shared how the grant has helped them succeed at university.

Han Yu Ooi, who is currently completing his Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Business stated that the grant was “incredibly beneficial,” and that it made everything much more manageable.

Han’s university courses required him to complete computer-aided design, essays, student research and various other class work, which was challenging with an old laptop.

“I can do my work without needing to minimise battery use and screen brightness to prevent the battery dying,” he said.

"The laptop is far faster running required software compared to my older bulkier laptop.”

Another recipient of the grant, Saman Koraeel, studies a Certificate IV in Design.

He said that the scholarship-funded laptop perfectly catered to his course requirements, allowing him to “fulfil the services for this course.”

Saman says he has loved his time at RMIT University.

Being a new refugee in Australia I faced a lot of problems, and this scholarship helped me to be stronger and happy.

Max Friedrich-Erlacher, pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering Honours, shared how the grant significantly improved his study capabilities.

“Being able to purchase this laptop due to the ability of the grant has helped my ability to study a lot.”
