Students embark on an overseas odyssey with prestigious New Colombo Plan scholarships

Three RMIT University students will have the opportunity to pursue their studies overseas in 2024 after being awarded the prestigious New Colombo Plan scholarships.

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) scholarship program supports Australian undergraduates to undertake study and work-based placements in the Indo-Pacific region. Following the easing of COVID travel restrictions, the program aims to, once again, build strong people-to-people and institutional links with Australia’s closest neighbors.

Since the NCP scholarship program was launched, 18 scholarships have been awarded to RMIT University students with most scholars studying International studies, Engineering and Social Work.

The 2024 round of New Colombo Plan scholarships will see the largest cohort yet, with 150 scholars set to live, study and intern across 24 locations next year. Additionally, this year's cohort will include the second largest number of First Nations Scholars (7), as well as the largest number of Scholars from regional and remote areas (60) and Scholars with disability (23).

The Scholars will contribute to Australia’s re-engagement with the Indo-Pacific. This year, three RMIT students will use this opportunity to enhance the skills they have developed during their undergraduate degrees.
