Ready for what’s next: Harneet’s journey in RMIT’s bold new campaign

Meet Harneet, an inspiring international student featured in RMIT’s latest brand campaign, What the future?!, showcasing innovation, resilience, and global impact.

RMIT’s latest brand campaign, What the future?!, is here to shake things up. With a fast-paced, high-energy video, it highlights the power of education in shaping the future—and among the many faces featured is Harneet Kaur, an international student from India who embodies the spirit of RMIT.

Harneet, who is pursuing an Associate Degree in IT, appears in an animated sequence that showcases the university’s global impact. But beyond the screen, she’s already making waves in the RMIT community.

“My decision to study abroad was about stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing independence,” Harneet says.

I wanted to gain a global perspective and grow both personally and professionally.

Since arriving in Melbourne, she’s thrown herself into university life, racking up over 40 hours of volunteer work and playing an active role in the RMIT Indian Club. Recently, she had the opportunity to represent international students on an RMIT Student Panel alongside Professor Alec Cameron, RMIT's Vice-Chancellor and President and Chief Experience Officer, Mr. Chaminda Ranasinghe —an experience she describes as both “humbling and inspiring.”

The What the future?! campaign highlights real-world innovation and problem-solving at RMIT, from AI improving healthcare across Vietnam to sneakers designed for people with neurological disorders. Harneet believes this aligns perfectly with her own ambitions.

“I want to specialize in cybersecurity and inspire other young students to pursue their dreams,” she says.

“One day, I hope to create a platform to mentor international students and help them navigate their journeys.”

With her drive, dedication, and passion for community, it’s no surprise Harneet was invited to be part of RMIT’s biggest campaign yet. And if you ask her what’s next?

"As far as my career aspirations go, I aim to become a skilled and innovative IT professional, specializing in cybersecurity," she says.

"I also want to serve as a role model for international students, guiding them to stay focused and helping them navigate their journeys.

In the future, I aspire to create a dedicated platform or community—possibly through social media—where I can mentor international students, share resources, and offer support to help them achieve their dreams."
