Ways to look after your wellbeing during assessment period

Maintaining your physical and mental health during assessments is proven to improve your academic performance. Check out some free activities, food and resources to help you take a health break between classes and assignments.

We know assessment period can be an intense time. With final assignments due and exams to study for, it's easy to get lost in your studies.

Whilst it's good to lock-in and be prepared, it's just as important to look after your physical and mental health during this time.

Studies have shown that an increase in physical activity improves blood pressure and sleep habits in university students and results in higher academic performance. 

Whether you're studying at home or on campus, RMIT has a range of opportunities and resources on offer to help stay physically and mentally healthy between classes during assessment period.

Here's a list of fun, free and accessible activities to do on-campus between classes or when it’s time to take a break from studying. 

Meditation Sessions – until 2 December

Take a mindful break with free meditation sessions. No prior experience is needed, and everyone is welcome. Guided meditation sessions happen in-person and online, providing a calm space to relax, reset, and cultivate focus—perfect for managing stress and supporting your overall wellbeing.

  • Dates: Every Monday-Tuesday until 2 December 2025 
  • Times: 12noon-1pm, 12:15-1pm

Free Play – City and Bundoora campuses until 14 November

Take a break from assessment stress and head to the sporting facilities on offer on campus, it's all completely free to enjoy if you're a student with RMIT. Kick a football or soccer ball, have a hit of tennis or squash, or throw a basketball or netball around with friends at the A'Beckett Square courts at the City Campus or the RMIT Sports Centre at the Bundoora West campus. 

  • Dates: Every Monday-Friday until 14 November 2025 (depending on court availability)  
  • Times: 8am-4pm (depending on court availability)  
  • Locations: 
    • City Campus: A'Beckett Square (behind Building 80), A'Beckett St and Stewart St, Melbourne City campus. Scan your RMIT student card at the courts to gain access during operating hours.
      • Facilities include: multi-purpose outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball, soccer and other ball sports.
    • Bundoora West campus:  RMIT Sports Centre Reception, Building 203, Level 3, RMIT Bundoora campus. Present your RMIT student card at reception to participate.
      • Facilities include: Football oval, indoor basketball stadium, outdoor soccer, hocket and futsal pitch, athletics track, squash and racquetball courts. Sports equipment hire is completely free of charge.

Walk the Labyrinth – until 29 October

Take a break to reduce stress, restore mental energy and renew your creativity. Walking the labyrinth is a calming meditative activity designed to refresh your mind, body and spirit.

  • Dates: Every Wednesday until 29 October 2025  
  • Time: Choose a time that suits you between 11am-1pm
  • Location: Multifaith and Wellbeing Centre, Building 47, Level 3, 8 Orr St, Carlton

RUSU Welfare on Wheels Snack Carts – until 26 October

Eating well is vital to boosting your brain’s performance. RUSU snack carts will be on-site at RMIT Library’s in October, providing tasty snacks to fuel your study sessions.

  • Dates: Until 26 October 2025
  • Times and locations:
    • Brunswick Library: Tuesdays from 11am 
    • City and Carlton libraries: Tuesdays from 4pm 
    • Bundoora library: Thursdays from 11am

  • Ways of Wellbeing: Check out this helpful guide outlining RMIT's Ways of Wellbeing model on protecting and maintaining your wellbeing to build resilience and lower your risk of experiencing mental health challenges.  
  • Mental Wellbeing Essentials: This course offers practical tips and guidance on how you can protect and grow your mental wellbeing whilst studying at RMIT. You will learn about why mental health is important and when and how to seek support for yourself and others. This course takes approximately 15 minutes, and you can obtain a certificate on completion.
