First Semester 101: What to expect at O Week

First Semester 101: What to expect at O Week

O Week is your chance to explore campus life, meet new people, and discover the places and services that can support you during your study. From activities and pop-ups to free food and campus tours, the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace.

Before arriving

Make sure you are dressed for the weather and ready for a day on your feet. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and pack anything that helps you feel comfortable, such as headphones, a hat, or a small towel for shade. Be sure to bring your phone and student card. If you haven’t organised your student card yet, click here.

Arriving at O Week

When you arrive, head to the Welcome Hub, staffed by our Student Life Ambassadors. They will be there throughout the day if you need help. Check your RMIT email for your confirmation and QR code. This is the code you will use to check in.

Bringing someone along

While O Week is designed for enrolled students, you are welcome to attend with a support person if you need or prefer one. Friends or family acting as a support person are also welcome. Student Connect can provide advice if extra arrangements are needed.

What the day will feel like

O Week can be lively and busy. Music plays across campus, stalls and pop-ups invite exploration, and there are plenty of performances and giveaways to enjoy. Mornings are usually quieter, giving you space to get your bearings, while afternoons are busier and more energetic.

You can move between the activities you are registered for, take a break, or step away from campus if you need to. The day is about finding your own pace and enjoying the experience in a way that works for you.

Calm spaces and quiet corners

There are several calming, inclusive, and neuroaffirming spaces across campuses. These areas are clearly signposted. If you are unsure where to go, speak to a Student Life Ambassador wearing a white t-shirt or red hoodie, or head back to the Welcome Hub. For more information about these areas, see the Orientation FAQs.

Sounds and sensory tips

O Week can be noisy, with music and crowds in multiple areas. If you use ear protection, bring it with you, or collect free earplugs from the Welcome Hub. Headphones, stepping away from noisy areas, or taking a short break in a calm space is completely fine. The day is designed for you to enjoy in a way that feels comfortable.
