First semester 101: Cheap eats near RMIT Bundoora

Discover affordable food options on and around RMIT’s Bundoora campus.

With on-campus cafés, regular free food through the RMIT University Student Union and the nearby Uni Hill DFO precinct, you can eat well without stretching your student budget.

On campus: quick, cheap, reliable

Nibble Café

Nibble is the go-to campus café for coffee, toasties, wraps, focaccias and hot snacks, all at student-friendly prices.

RMIT Sports Centre Café

Ideal for a post-gym snack or early coffee. Expect pies, toasties, pastries and barista coffee at sensible prices. It is open later than the main campus café, which is helpful if you are on campus into the evening.  

Free food on campus

The RMIT University Student Union (RUSU) runs regular free food programs throughout semester to support students with cost-of-living pressures.

Grab a sausage in bread or a vegan burger and take a break between classes.

  • Bundoora West: Mondays, Building 220

Fruit, breakfast foods, noodles, muesli and more. Ideal if you have an early class.

Cheap eats near campus

The closest food hub is Uni Hill DFO at 5 Janefield Drive, Bundoora. It sits just across Plenty Road near Clements Drive, around a 5-to-10-minute walk from campus.

Zambrero

Fresh Mexican bowls and burritos, with filling bowls and burritos available for under $15. A solid option if you want something quick and substantial.

Pinoy Plates

A casual Filipino eatery serving burgers, loaded fries, fish and chips and a generous Filipino breakfast. Beef and vegetarian burgers are available for under $11, with combo deals if you want chips and a drink included.

Pattysmiths

Smash-style burgers with classic beef and chicken options. Simple burgers start under $9, with meal deals for one or two people that include burgers, chips and wings at student-friendly prices.

Nevski Cafe

A relaxed café inside the Uni Hill precinct serving coffee, breakfast plates and light lunch options. A convenient stop close to campus for something simple.

Fat Staks

A casual burger spot serving classic burgers, hot dogs and toasties, with simple options available for under $11. An easy option within walking distance of Uni Hill.

Lucky Little Dumplings

A casual dumpling and noodle spot offering dumplings, rice and noodle dishes. You can grab 15 dumplings for under $16, making it an easy option to share or stretch across two meals.
