1. What did you study at RMIT and what attracted you to that program?
I studied a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement). I have always been an active person and was fascinated by how the body moves, performs and recovers, and RMIT’s practical, hands-on approach to applied science was exactly the way I wanted to learn.
2. What is your business all about?
Revolution Personal Training (RevoPT) is a strength and performance studio in South Melbourne that has been running since 2004. We help busy professionals build genuine, lasting fitness through expert coaching across personal, semi-private and group training. More than a gym, we are a close-knit community where people come to get stronger for life, both physically and mentally.
3. Where do you see your business in 10 years’ time?
I want RevoPT to build from our single site studio into a multi-site business the local professionals think of first when they decide to take their health seriously, with a thriving community of members who train with us for the long haul. I want to keep investing in our coaches and in industry education, so we are helping to shape the next generation of trainers as well as our own members.
4. How has studying at RMIT prepared you to run your business?
The degree gave me a real understanding of exercise science, which is the foundation everything that RevoPT is built on. Just as importantly, I started the business while I was still studying, so I learned early how to take what I knew and apply it to real people with real goals. That mix of solid theory and hands-on application is what has kept the business relevant for more than twenty years.
5. What advice would you have offered yourself when you first started your business?
Work on the business, not just in it. For a long time, I was the one delivering every session, and the real growth came when I started building systems and a team I could trust. I would tell my younger self to back myself sooner, invest in good people early, and remember that looking after your own health and energy is part of running the business Well.
6. What is the best part of running a fitness business?
Watching people change. There is nothing better than seeing someone walk in unsure of themselves and, months later, moving with confidence and enjoying their training. Getting to do that alongside a team and community I have built over two decades is the best part of the job.
