Heather is a lecturer in the School of Media and Communication specialising in radio and podcasting.
Heather has more than 20 years experience as a broadcast and online journalist, presenter & producer at ABC International/Radio Australia and Radio National and has a strong interest in the Asia-Pacific region. She has reported from countries around the Asia-Pacific and Africa and has a strong interest in the role of media and journalism in international and community development.
Heather is also a freelance podcast producer and radio documentary maker. Her radio documentary Fallen Angels (https://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/earshot/fallen-angels/9272950), produced for ABC RN with journalist and academic Margaret Simons, was a finalist in the 2017 Amnesty International Australia Media Awards, and the 2017 United Nations Media Awards.
Heather is currently undertaking PhD research exploring the potential of podcasting as a means by which young Pacific women can advance feminist social change agendas.
