Jeff is globally experienced as an industry practitioner in communication, public relations, marketing communication, strategy, and stakeholder engagement, working with start-ups to large multinationals. An education scientist and management professional by qualification, Jeff understands the intersection of neuroscience with citizen behaviour, student learning, and teaching praxis.
His career stretches across a range of sectors including financial services, professional services, government, EdTech, and higher education.
With board experience within UK and Australian corporate governance frameworks, he is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Senior Fellow of the UK’s Higher Education Academy (now known as Advance HE), and a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of Australia.
Jeff is the Program Manager for the Master of Communication at RMIT, as well as the Graduate Certificate in Digital Communication Strategy for RMIT Online. He is also the Industry Fellow for the Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations) program.
His research interests relate to the scholarship of teaching and learning, work-integrated learning, and the role of citizenry in education design.
In 2020, he was awarded an $11,000 Teaching and Learning grant to design and develop an online assessment which utilised gamification in a 'choose your own adventure' format for a postgraduate program.
In 2021, he was awarded a $16,000 grant from the Australian Technology Network to develop an online professional development module for HDR students across its six university members as part of ATN's Frontiers program. Entitled 'The Future Professional: Crossing the Bridge', this module aims to equip students with skills and knowledge to transition from their PhD into professional practice whether in industry, academia, entrepreneurship, or government.
Jeff regularly contributes to a global community of practice in these disciplinary areas: presenting in London in 2020 on equitable assessment design; launching a book with the European Society for Research on the Education of Adults (ESREA) and Pearson College London in 2021 on WIL for Gen Y and Z; and, presenting at the 2022 Advance HE Teaching and Learning conference on the opportunity for higher education institutions to focus on students' values as a pillar of the graduate employability discussion.
As part of his engagement work, Jeff collaborates with Synthesis School, a US start-up originating from Elon Musk’s Astra Nova school in Los Angeles, focusing on the gamification of learning for 8-14 year olds around the world. This work sees him design learning experiences to teach critical thinking, first principles thinking, and a range of mental models through gaming simulations designed by leading minds, in support of the Synthesis mission to ‘accelerate human progress through education’.
