Skills injection will boost top-end digital economy and skill up Territorians post-COVID-19

RMIT Online, the Centre for Digital Enterprise and the Northern Territory Government have come together to deliver the opportunity for 100 NT residents to be funded to study for free in the Future Skills – Emerging Technologies program.

The Future Skills – Emerging Technologies program will provide flexible and responsive future skills training opportunities for Territorians designed to enhance their existing skills and knowledge through skill sets rather than undertaking full qualifications.

The program is a new initiative of the Northern Territory Government, aimed at addressing the potential impacts that new smart skills and Industry 4.0[1] are having on the Territory economy. The Northern Territory Government is committed to supporting Territorians prepare for jobs of the future by gaining portable and transferable skills to grow and diversify the Territory’s economy.

In this 12-month pilot of the Future Skills – Emerging Technologies program, Territory residents will be able to apply to study intensive online short courses in areas like digitisation, artificial intelligence, big data and virtual/augmented reality.

RMIT Online CEO Helen Souness said that key skills in emerging technology areas would be vital for driving job creation in the post-COVID economy.

The courses we are offering have been designed in close partnership with industry to target areas with emerging skills shortages to ensure that we are getting the right skills mix into our workforce to create jobs.

RMIT Online courses have been developed in partnership with leading companies like IBM, Amazon Web Services and Salesforce, with students mentored from experts in the field.

Eligible applicants must be a Northern Territory resident already working, re-entering the workforce or seeking to upskill.
