VMIA is the Victorian Government’s insurer and risk adviser, covering the people, places and projects that help Victorians thrive. Meeting clients’ risk and insurance needs means they can be confident in the face of uncertainty and recover quickly when things don’t go to plan.
As part of VMIA’s learning and development program for staff, they offer sponsorships, career coaching and formal learning. RMIT Online was brought on to build a short course on risk management in the public sector with the goal of enrolling up to 500 VMIA staff members and clients over the next 12 months (from October 2023 to June 2024).
The short course provides a comprehensive introduction on how to manage risk, equipping employees with the knowledge needed to promote the benefits and application of risk management within teams and broader organisation. Learners explore real-world examples with the opportunity to critically apply knowledge to a range of workplace scenarios. The course was developed with input from industry partners from Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) and the Victorian Public Sector Commission (VPSC).
As of February 2024, 350 staff members and clients of VMIA had enrolled in the course, with 190 successfully completing. 98% surveyed learners agreed that they will be able to apply what they have learnt into their current roles, with a further 95% agreeing that they would recommend the course to a colleague.
