Marketing graduate joins alumni company

Recent Masters of Marketing graduate Kyle Wu secured a role at Composed Digital after impressing co-founder and RMIT alumni Nick Epstein.

Kyle and Nick crossed paths during an industry showcase event held during one of Kyle’s final classes in his Master of Marketing program, Marketing Technologies.

The showcase offered Kyle and his classmates the chance to learn more about the MarTech industry from someone who began on a similar pathway to them.

Nick graduated from RMIT in 2014 and credits his studies with inciting his entrepreneurial journey.

“The mix of practical and theory-based learning helped me see marketing as both creative and analytical, which is pretty much what my business is built around today,” Nick said.

Shortly after the showcase, Kyle secured a graduate role with Nick's company Composed Digital and has been working there for about two months.

Kyle has hit the ground running in his new job, blazing through training modules and getting stuck into a project with a big retail client.

“As a newcomer to MarTech, I was immediately given the opportunity to work directly with clients, tackle real deliverables, and – importantly – learn by making mistakes,” Kyle said.

“Each week brings new tools, client challenges, and learning opportunities.”

Future-ready curriculum leads to success

Kyle said his studies taught him what to expect from working in an industry environment, which helped him quickly assimilate in his role.  In particular, the focus on marketing automation and MarTech – both growing priorities in the industry – enabled Kyle to develop future-fit skills.

The curriculum not only grounded me in key frameworks but also encouraged us to solve real-world challenges in partnership with industry.

A standout moment from his studies was presenting an international marketing campaign to soft drink manufacturer Sparkling Beverages. This experience gave Kyle the confidence to tackle client work straight out of university.

“More than grades, the experience was immensely rewarding, as our plan was their top pick for expanding into the Singaporean market. The combination of theory and practice at RMIT, along with my drive to upskill, enabled me to forge a purposeful path into the industry,” Kyle said.

Manager of the Marketing Technology major Jessica Pallant said she is delighted by Kyle’s success.

“This major has been designed to deliver cutting-edge marketing education that sets up our graduates for long-term success in an industry that is being reshaped by technology."

“Kyle’s achievements are an incredible example of how a curriculum designed in collaboration with industry, where students learn in-demand technological skills and work directly with industry partners, can open the door to exciting opportunities,” Jessica said.

Embracing a lifelong learning mindset

Kyle graduated with a Bachelor of Hotel Management from Bangalore’s Christ University in 2019. His first job was working in corporate sales at luxury hospitality chains, which is where he discovered his passion for marketing.

He decided to return to study in 2023, buoyed by RMIT’s strong graduate employability outcomes and flexible learning pathways.

It was Kyle’s curiosity and desire to learn that helped him excel at RMIT – qualities that will serve him well in an evolving industry.

“In the MarTech space, there’s always new technology, freshness and unexplored industry applications on the horizon.

“My aim is to broaden my experience across diverse industries, stay adaptable and be open to new trends, so I can eventually make a meaningful impact as a leader in MarTech, bringing together technical innovation and marketing strategy,” Kyle said.
