Following the devastating terrorist attack at Bondi Beach which targeted the Jewish community, the Australian Government has announced a National Day of Mourning on Thursday 22 January 2026.
As a community, RMIT University will be honouring the victims by flying all flags on campus at half-mast.
There are a number of ways you may think about honouring the victims including:
- Coming together, sharing a meal and spending time with family and friends of all faiths and backgrounds on Thursday 22 January 2026
- Leaving a candle on your doorstep or window as a symbol of remembrance, mourning and solidarity with the Jewish community
- Undertaking one or more of the 15 suggested Mitzvah for Bondi
- Adding an online message to the NSW Government’s One Mitzvah for Bondi board
- Contributing to the Bondi Beach condolence book
- Observing a minute of silence (at 7:01 pm), or
- Any other ways that are culturally appropriate and personal to you.
At RMIT, we are proud of our multi-cultural and multi-faith community. We are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all members of our community.
Honouring the victims of Bondi Beach is an important step in supporting all parts of our diverse community. Our thoughts continue to be with the Jewish community, within RMIT and beyond, and those personally impacted by this tragedy.
The RMIT community can confidentially raise any issues or concerns and access support via our Safer Community Team, or the additional student support services listed below.
