RMIT recognised as one of Australia’s most innovative universities

A new rankings survey by The Educator Higher Education calls out Australia’s most forward-thinking universities, with RMIT Activator recognised for its work in innovation, entrepreneurial thinking, and experiential learning for the University.

The Educator said the winners demonstrated the kind of innovation and creativity that is driving the education industry forward, from teaching approaches to learning spaces and curriculum design.

RMIT Activator Director Matt Salier said RMIT had a long history of innovation and Activator was proud to be leading work with the University’s academic, research and professional staff.

"We love being a catalyst for pursuing RMIT's ambitions as being one the best places for developing future focused talent and fostering dynamic connections with industry," Salier said.

“Internal innovation programs are often very challenging – I am proud of the work that the Activator team is doing to bring impact and value to the University through this distinctive and now award-winning program.”

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Business and Law, Professor Julie Cogin, said an Innovation Jam collaboration between the College of Business and Law and RMIT Activator was a great example of the University giving its staff the space, time and support to develop new ideas for education excellence.

“Innovation is in our DNA at RMIT and drives everything from our teaching approaches to learning spaces and curriculum design," Cogin said.

“Even though they faced challenges pivoting to online during COVID-19, our people showed true resilience through these Innovation Jams and still developed some impressive EdTech solutions that have the potential to create real impact for staff and students.”

Salier said the one of the keys to the success of the Innovation Jam was the opportunity for professional and academic staff to work side-by-side on diverse concepts in an extremely collaborative environment.

“I look forward to continuing to work across the breadth of RMIT and assisting our great institution in adapting to this significant period of change."

RMIT Activator operates as the entrepreneurial heart of the university, offering students, staff, alumni, and industry partners a range of learning experiences, including startup accelerator programs, founder and future leader capability courses, micro-credentials, educator professional development, and industry-based/student-led innovation challenges to address enterprise skills gaps.
