Chancellor Dr Ziggy Switkowski AO to step down

Dr Ziggy Switkowski has confirmed his intention to step down from the position of Chancellor of the University by the end of October to focus upon his recently announced new Board responsibilities.

Janet Latchford, RMIT’s Deputy Chancellor is currently leading Council in the search for a permanent replacement, a process which is well underway.

“It has been a pleasure and honour to serve as RMIT Chancellor these past eleven years and I will leave with a great sense of pride at what was achieved in that time but, more so excitement in what lies ahead under the leadership of incoming Vice-Chancellor Professor Alec Cameron,” said Dr Switkowski.

Ms Latchford commented, “It is with enormous gratitude for his significant contribution that we will farewell our Chancellor, colleague and friend Ziggy Switkowski.

"Ziggy has been a force for positive change and an influential voice for RMIT and the sector across government and industry and will be missed. We wish him well in his new endeavours.”

Should an appointment of the next Chancellor not be made before Dr Switkowski leaves, then Ms Latchford will act in that role.

Dr Switkowski announced his decision to step down from the role of Chancellor at an RMIT Council meeting on 1 September 2021.
