Statement on research partnership with Elbit Systems of Australia

RMIT has received feedback from our community about a joint research project that RMIT has with Elbit Systems of Australia (ELSA).

We acknowledge the concerns raised by our community and want to provide clarity on the nature of the project that is underway.

RMIT does not design, develop or manufacture weapons or munitions.

This project is focused on using drones to support emergency service responses and evacuations in natural disaster situations.

Our interest in this collaboration stems from a deep commitment to research which supports our communities with a strong focus on public safety.

Our research will be published and openly accessible so that other researchers and disaster management authorities can use these technologies to better manage the increasingly frequent and severe natural disasters we face.
