Hours and locations

There are four Library sites located on the City, Brunswick, and Bundoora campuses. There is a Makerspace on the City campus in Franklin Street. RMIT University Archives is at Bundoora campus.

External visitors

External visitors please note that from 6.30pm weekdays and all weekend the campus buildings are only accessible with an RMIT swipe card.

Swanston Library

Wheelchair access

Car parking spaces are available on LaTrobe Street, near the Bowen Street entrance.

Wheelchair access from Swanston Street is via lifts in Building 12.

Within the Library, nearly all-public areas are accessible to wheelchairs.

Toilets are located near the entrance to Swanston Library.

Wheelchair access

The Bundoora Library is accessible to people using wheelchairs. Entrance doors are self-opening and there is lift access to the upper and lower levels.

An accessible toilet is on level 2 near the Copy Card coin machine.

Accessible car parking is available in the car park next to the Bundoora Library.

Carlton Library

Street address: Building 94, Level 3, 23 Cardigan Street, Carlton.

Please note: The public library called Carlton Library has no connection with RMIT University.

Brunswick Library

Please note: Weekend access requires RMIT swipe card. Both entrances are on Dawson St. Pedestrian access is Entrance B and vehicle access is Entrance C.

Wheelchair access

There is a car park at the west entrance to Building 514. Additional car spaces are available in the main car park at the rear of the campus. 

Ramp access and automatic doors are available at the west entrance of Building 514. Take the lift to level 3 of Building 514.

Toilets are on the ground level of building 514, near the lift and student Hub.

Makerspace

About the Makerspace: Visit the Makerspace website for more information about the resources and tools available. 

Please note: The Brunswick Campus B515 Makerspace is not operated/affiliated with the Library.

Access conditions: Current RMIT students and staff only.

Street address: Melbourne City campus Building 14, Level 3, Room 132. The main entrance on Franklin Street is closed until further notice. Enter via Building 14.

  • Monday-Friday: 10am-4pm (closed: 1pm-1:30pm)
  • Weekends and public holidays: closed.

Wheelchair access

Access to the lower level of the Makerspace is available from the entrance on Franklin Street. 

Access to the upper level is via the Mobility Access Lift situated to the right of the escalator at the Swanston Street entrance to Building 12 and 14. Ground Level is 2B. Please take the lift to Level 3 and turn left at the end of the corridor.

About RMIT University Archives: The Archives operate as the institutional repository for university records that are evidence of the functions and activities performed throughout RMIT. Our mission is to acquire, organise, preserve and publicise such materials and to assist researchers in their use.

Our collection spans from the commencement of the Working Men’s College in 1887 until present day, and includes records of predecessor entities. Visit the RMIT University Archives website for more information about digital preservation, our collections and links to digitised resources.

There are accessible car parks available in the car park near the entrance to Building 202 (John W. Ross Building). Automatic doors are available at the security entrance to Buildings 202 and 210. There is a lift to the upper and lower levels.

Community visitors are welcome

Our Library is open to community visitors and researchers. Membership is not required to access physical collections, free online resources and open study spaces. There are also options for those wishing to borrow from our collections.
