In celebration of NAIDOC's 50 Years of Deadly theme, the Library is delighted to host a screening of Unpacked: Madeline McGrady. The 25-minute film celebrates the groundbreaking contribution of First Nations filmmaker Madeline McGrady and the significance of her 1982 protest film Guniwaya Ngigu (We Fight).
Guest speakers Olympia Barron and Simon Rose (Birra/Gurreng Gurreng) will then discuss how the project to create the Unpacked film got started, their goals and research process, key creative decisions made along the way, as well as ongoing research directions.
You'll also hear about contested histories, handling sensitive or traumatic content, and balancing academic research with community memory. Everyone in attendance will be encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussion at the end.
