Check your writing and assignments with AI personas created by the Library

RMIT recently introduced two new Val personas that provide pointers on your assignments – at the touch of a button.

Using AI for study help? Make sure you ask the right robot.

While the Library provides fantastic in-person study support, there are many reasons you might want the near-instant feedback an online AI system can provide. As an RMIT student, you have access to a customised, secure AI system (Val) that won’t use your work to train other models.

What AI tool should I use for assessment support?

RMIT recently introduced two new Val personas that provide pointers on your assignments.

Writing Help offers detailed feedback on grammar, structure, word choice and general sentence flow.

Assignment Check lets you compare your text against the assignment instructions and rubric. You’ll receive advice on whether the assignment has met the brief and tips for how it could be improved.

These personas offer a level of customisation and quality control that will provide extra confidence about the advice you’re receiving. It also ensures that your intellectual property is de-identified and preserved within an RMIT-owned AI tool, keeping your data safe.

How do I access the personas?

You can give both personas a try now! Launch Val and choose ‘Personas’ from the side menu.

Then select ‘Writing Help’ or ‘Assignment Check’ and copy and upload or paste your text for a thorough, AI-generated review.

What kind of feedback will I receive?

Writing Check will detect your writing type and assess it for:

  • strengths
  • high-impact improvements
  • grammar diagnostics
  • sentence and paragraph structure
  • source and citation analysis.

You will be offered a priority plan for improvements at the end.

Assignment Check will:

  • assess your draft against the assignment instructions and marking rubric
  • provide feedback on the strengths of your draft and any improvements needed
  • offer overall feedback and the top five priority improvements.

At the end, you will be linked to further help at RMIT if you would like to seek in-person support.

What happened to Studiosity?

Studiosity has been replaced by Val personas as RMIT’s 24/7 AI study support service. Access to Studiosity was removed in late 2025.

For any questions, please submit a question to Study Support or reach out to studysupport@rmit.edu.au.
