RMIT Chancellor reappointed for third term

RMIT Council is pleased to announce the reappointment of Dr Ziggy Switkowski AO as Chancellor for another term of five years upon the expiration of his current term on 31 December 2020.

For more than nine years under Switkowski's stewardship, RMIT University has gone from strength to strength and its standing as a leader in education, research and industry collaboration continues to improve.

RMIT is now ranked 18th globally for universities under 50 years and is among the world’s top 30 universities with a technological orientation.

It is ranked 10th overall in the 2020 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, 1st globally in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and the top Victorian University for student engagement.

Switkowski said he had greatly valued and enjoyed his association with RMIT University these past two terms and was very proud of its achievements and progress over that period.

"But even more, I am looking forward to working with Council, Vice-Chancellor Martin Bean and his executive in meeting the challenges of the COVID-19 disruption and leveraging our capabilities in digitization and online teaching and learning to the benefit of staff, students and society,” he said.

In these challenging times RMIT's mission to transform lives and shape the world for the better remains strong, and the University is grateful for the Chancellor’s outstanding leadership, commitment and support, today, and in the years ahead.
