EIT Urban Mobility and RMIT partner to transform the leadership landscape

EIT Urban Mobility and RMIT have joined forces to foster the growth of high-potential leaders within the public sector across Europe, equipping them with the skills and perspective to effectively manage and innovate in an increasingly complex landscape.

The new EIT Urban Mobility Emerging Leaders program will give high-potential leaders access to RMIT’s modern leadership program by CoVE, RMIT University’s College of Vocational Education and FORWARD, the Centre for Future Skills and Workforce Transformation.

Program participants will be nominated by their city leaders in collaboration with EIT Urban Mobility to undertake a six-month leadership development journey, with the first edition commencing in early 2024.

Throughout the program, the groups of 8 to 10 emerging leaders will build networks and develop connections through learning circles, executive coaching, meetings with executive leaders and a bespoke conference.

On completion of the transformational learning experience, an alumni community of practice will maintain ongoing collaboration.

RMIT’s College of Vocational Education Deputy Vice-Chancellor Mish Eastman said the program delivers benefits for participants, the cities where they work, and for city leaders and their executive teams.

“For the future leader undertaking the program, there’s an incredible opportunity to build a network of peers from diverse backgrounds while exploring practical insights into modern leadership and the challenges and opportunities facing the workforce of the future in the space of urban mobility,” Eastman said.

“This is what RMIT’s College of Vocational Education does so well – providing lifelong learning and upskilling opportunities to the community in key areas of demand.

“We’re looking forward to this exciting journey ahead with EIT Urban Mobility.”

EIT Urban Mobility Academy Director Martin Vendel said the new collaboration will drive practical learning and development for future city leaders, anchored in their cities and through collaboration with peers.

“EIT Urban Mobility Academy and RMIT are excited to build on their existing partnership to train emerging city leaders, needed by the urban mobility ecosystem of the future,” Vendel said.

“We look forward to offering high-potential leaders across our city network the opportunity to take part in an innovative leadership program which is focused on the meaningful elements of the lived experience of leadership as a practice and as a craft.”

The EIT Urban Mobility and RMIT partnership has been growing since 2020 and is driven by RMIT’s European Innovation Hub

It includes a suite of video explainers on EIT Urban Mobility’s Urban Mobility Explained and a portfolio of 13 short online courses and MOOCs on healthy, sustainable and liveable cities.

In addition to the new EIT Urban Mobility Emerging Leaders program, the partnership in 2023-24 includes new online courses on walkability and real estate as well as an RMIT Online Future Skills program on Sustainability for the Built Environment.
