RMIT strengthens commitment to Asia through renewed partnership with Asia Society Australia

RMIT University and Asia Society Australia (ASA) have announced the second phase of their partnership and launched the renamed RMIT Asia Hub, front door to understanding and engaging with Asia in Melbourne.

The two organisations have forged a strong and successful partnership since signing a strategic collaboration in 2021, which included co-locating ASA's headquarters and Melbourne office to RMIT. 

RMIT and ASA will work collaboratively through the Asia Hub with a focus on innovative ways to engage with Asia, further deepening Australia business, student and broader community understanding of the region and expanding Australia’s Asia Intelligence.   

The launch event was held at the new RMIT Asia Hub, formerly the Asia Trade and Innovation Hub, located at Building 8, 368-374 Swanston Street. 

The rebrand reflects the evolving scope of partnered activities offered in the space and now also includes the co-location of the Australian APEC Study Centre, strengthening the Asia ecosystem and providing a location to welcome inbound delegations.

The Hub places Asian Australians at the centre of its programming, connecting directly to industry and leveraging both institution’s international networks.

With future partnership and Hub activities to include leadership development programs, thought leadership and policy engagement, and global student experiences it is an exciting time for both RMIT and ASA.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Alec Cameron said this next phase of partnership would see RMIT and Asia Society Australia elevate what is already a successful and productive strategic relationship. 

"We will drive new and innovative ways to engage with Asia, working collaboratively through the RMIT Asia Hub to deepen Australian business, student and community understanding of the region.,” Cameron said.

Anthony Bubalo, CEO of ASA said the Society's mission was to advance Australia’s security and prosperity in Asia.

"Our partnership with RMIT is a critical enabler of that mission," Bubalo said.

"We look forward to working with RMIT to develop new and practical programs that strengthen Australia’s Asia knowledge and capabilities."
