RMIT and UNIQLO partner to deliver seamless career opportunities for RMIT students

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will provide students and recent graduates with direct access to career development and employment opportunities with one of the world’s largest apparel retail brands - UNIQLO.

Representatives from RMIT including Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education Professor Sherman Young, UNIQLO Australia including Chief Financial Officer Tim Routley and HR Director Deepthi Merudi, and senior leaders from Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (UNIQLO’s parent company headquartered in Tokyo) met to formalise the agreement at RMIT’s City campus.

Through the three-year agreement, UNIQLO will make available to RMIT students employment opportunities including graduate roles and internships, industry partnered learning opportunities including guest lectures and real-world projects, and the 6-day intensive Global Management Program organised and managed by Fast Retailing Co. Ltd.

RMIT Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education Professor Sherman Young said RMIT favours an authentic, industry-connected approach to learning that provides students with tools and scenarios that mirror real-world environments.

"This agreement represents RMIT’s commitment to partnerships that provide opportunities for our students to get hands-on experience directly from industry experts."

"UNIQLO’s focus on innovation and community engagement resonates strongly with us here at RMIT and we’re excited to collaborate to deliver innovative employability experiences in and out of the classroom."

UNIQLO Australia’s Chief Financial Officer Tim Routley emphasised the synergies between UNIQLO and RMIT.

"UNIQLO creates LifeWear, which is simple, high quality, everyday clothing designed to improve the lives of Australians," he said.

"Similarly, RMIT is dedicated to delivering high quality and practical learning pathways; designed to empower students to create an impact to their future and the world."

"This feels like a natural alignment between two organisations with shared values," Tim said.

UNIQLO Australia’s HR Director Deepthi Merudi said that UNIQLO’s internship and hiring initiatives are committed to nurturing young, passionate talent to become future store and global business leaders.

"This partnership marks a significant step forward in strengthening our efforts to develop future talent and provide meaningful career opportunities."

The MoU builds on collaboration over the past several years which has seen UNIQLO run recruitment events on campus, and collaborate with the College of Business and Law to pitch real business problems that saw students produce and present solutions to UNIQLO representatives.
