RMIT puts STEM students in pole position with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation

RMIT and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) have agreed to a new three-year partnership to bring more students into the world of STEM.

Over the next three years, RMIT and AGPC will partner to help STEM students grow their skillsets and explore career pathways by providing increased opportunities to connect with top professionals in the motorsport industry and showcasing the next generation of talent.

Under the new agreement, RMIT will become an official Event Supporter of the FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2026 and have a continuing presence at the landmark event in 2027 and 2028.

RMIT will participate in the AGPC’s Innovation Hub with an activation space featuring nine high-tech stations including robots, VR and high-performance cars. It will also partner with the ‘Team of Tomorrow’, a program supported by Karting Australia that creates a platform to showcase the next generation of motorsport talent.

RMIT and AGPC’s partnership is also set to explore internships for students, investigate opportunities to promote and develop initiatives to support career pathways in motorsport with a focus on STEM, and identify potential research areas for student projects.

RMIT’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor STEM College and Vice-President, Professor Catherine Itsiopoulos said the exciting new agreement builds on a longstanding relationship with the AGPC and the opportunities it would create were set to inspire more people to enter STEM fields.

"We’ve been warmly welcomed to the Australian Grand Prix for years, and last year we showcased our STEM activities to over 465,000 people, including more than 20,000 students," said Itsiopoulos.

"We’re very excited to be working more closely with the AGPC over the next three years to create an even better experience for students, both current and prospective, and continue to highlight just how exciting and meaningful a career in STEM can be."

Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chief Commercial Officer, Emma Pinwill said the partnership with RMIT reflects a commitment to creating impactful pathways into motorsport beyond just racing.

"By bringing students into the action through the Innovation Hub and Team of Tomorrow we’re highlighting the real-world opportunities that STEM in motorsport can unlock to inspire the next generation."
