RMIT extends partnership with Cricket Victoria to continue Melbourne Cricket Education Academy

RMIT University and Cricket Victoria have announced the extension of their partnership alongside the Melbourne Cricket Education Academy (MCEA), which will continue to provide students with an exclusive pathway that combines study with real-world experience.

The collaboration focuses on integrating education with a high-performance sporting environment, giving students access to unique learning opportunities while developing the skills and insights needed to succeed in the business of elite sport.

Since its inception in 2023, the Melbourne Cricket Education Academy has offered students unparalleled exposure to the sporting industry. Over the next three years, the program will continue to grow, ensuring students gain hands-on experience and industry connections.

During their time in the MCEA program, all students participate in industry placements across Cricket Victoria’s departments, including playing key roles in delivering cricket tournaments and community programs. Following their graduation, two students are guaranteed fixed-term positions working with the Melbourne Stars or Melbourne Renegades, with opportunities also regularly arising for further graduates.

RMIT Deputy Vice-Chancellor Vocational Education and Vice-President Mish Eastman said the extended partnership will continue to prepare students for success in elite sport careers.

"Since 2023 this program has achieved wonderful success and student outcomes. Being able to immerse themselves within Cricket Victoria, with exposure to unique learning and working opportunities, has been fantastic for our students who want to work in the world of elite sport," Eastman said.

"We look forward to continuing to work with Cricket Victoria and enabling student success together."

Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins said the renewal reinforces their commitment to developing future leaders in sport.

"We’re proud to continue our partnership with RMIT University and the Melbourne Cricket Education Academy. This renewal reinforces our commitment to providing students with exceptional opportunities to combine their passion for cricket with higher education, helping to develop the next generation of leaders in sport.

"Since the program’s inception in 2023, 77 students have graduated with a Dual Diploma of Business, Leadership and Management, with 18 graduates joining Cricket Victoria in full-time and casual roles, and 14 having gone on to further study. This demonstrates the real pathways this partnership creates for students seeking future careers in sport."

Applications are now open for the 2026 intake for MCEA with a tour and information session to be held on 9 January at Citipower Centre.
