Appointment of inaugural Provost at RMIT University

RMIT is proud to announce that Professor Guy Littlefair will join the University in February 2027 as its inaugural Provost.

The role of Provost will act as RMIT’s senior academic leader, bringing greater University wide alignment to academic priorities, decisions, and operations. The role will also provide clear leadership across our Colleges, the Education and Research and Innovation portfolios, and RMIT Vietnam, while strengthening coordination on matters that require an enterprise-wide approach.

Professor Littlefair brings more than three decades of leadership experience across higher education, research, student success, innovation, international engagement and engineering. His career spans engineering and research leadership in the United Kingdom and senior leadership roles at Auckland University of Technology, Deakin University and the University of Western Australia.

Over the course of his career, Professor Littlefair has led major academic, research, and organisational initiatives across academic quality, engineering and technology, international partnerships, industry engagement, and institutional transformation. He has worked extensively with industry, government, and community partners, helping strengthen connections between education, research, innovation, and societal impact.

Currently, he is Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience) at the University of Western Australia and a member of the University Executive. He leads a broad portfolio spanning education, student experience, academic quality, internationalisation, digital learning, curriculum transformation, access and participation, regional engagement, and student success.

"Commensurate with RMIT’s scale, reach and impact, we are strengthening our academic leadership through the establishment of the Provost role," said Professor Alec Cameron, RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President.

“I have great confidence that Professor Littlefair's appointment will provide strong academic leadership and greater coordination across our academic community."
