Event: Making Native Title consent laws matter: a conversation with politicians about reform agendas. 28 Sept 2021

In this important event, politicians from the main Australian political parties will outline their policies and reform programs for how Traditional Owners give consent for use of their lands and waters.

2021 RMIT University report, First Peoples and Land Justice Issues in Australia, highlighted omissions in native title law, as well as heritage and environmental laws, to give expression to international human rights laws concerning how Traditional Owners give consent for business to use of their land.

In this important event, politicians from the main Australian political parties will outline their policies and reform programs for how Traditional Owners give consent for use of their lands and waters. They will then take questions from a First Nations expert panel.  The speakers are Senator Lidia Thorpe (National Greens spokesperson for First Nations, Justice, and Sport), Mr Graham Perrett MP (Deputy Chair of Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights), and Jolleen Hicks (Aboriginal Insights).
