RMIT Open Day reimagined as a personalised and immersive virtual event this weekend

Future students and their families will be able to experience RMIT this weekend at the 2020 Virtual Open Day, when and where they want.

The virtual event will allow visitors to delve into the world of RMIT and see what the University has to offer, with tours of buildings, campuses and world-class facilities.

They will also have the opportunity to connect with over 500 academics and 200 current students, industry partners, experts and alumni from across the world.

Chief Marketing Office Chaminda Ranasinghe said Open Day is usually a really special time where we get to welcome our prospective students on to our campuses to experience RMIT.

"However, this year given our circumstances, we are delighted to be able to bring to life our University via the use of technology. RMIT’s virtual Open Day is a showcase of how we use technology and design to deliver amazing experiences,” Chaminda said.

“At RMIT we are about connectivity, and this year we are using some amazing digital tools to connect our prospective students with our academics, alumni, industry partners and of course our current students globally”.

There will be 15 Live Activations, including an online fashion show featuring student’s work and RMIT’s own short film festival.

RMIT’s industry partners will be there to discuss how they collaborate with the university, from IBM and Renault to RMIT ABC Fact Check, ACMI and NGV.

Alumni from Facebook, Fox International Channel, and The United Nations will also be on-hand to share their experiences from RMIT and beyond.

The virtual event will allow visitors to save videos and scheduled events into their dashboard to watch beyond a single event.

Director of Global Student Recruitment, Jodie Atlan, said this year had been particularly challenging for those in secondary school or facing an uncertain employment market.

“We hope to welcome everyone to RMIT through our virtual Open Day and provide some certainty, but most of all something to feel excited about and look forward to,” she said.

“We’ve learnt so much in the past few months about our students. We have learnt that students can learn in so many different ways, while still providing many elements of their campus experience and we look forward to sharing these.”

RMIT offers hundreds of programs and last year, 35,000 people attended the RMIT Open Day.
