Confirmed COVID-19 case

An external contractor who attended RMIT’s Building 56 (Level 2) at Queensberry St Carlton on Friday 21 May between 8.00am and 10.30am has tested positive for COVID-19.

RMIT’s Building 56 and Building 57 at Queensbury Street Carlton have now been added as a Tier 3 exposure site for Thursday 13 May 2021 between 8.00am and 4.00pm.

In line with government advice, any staff and students who visited this location during the timeframe have been notified and advised to monitor for symptoms and seek testing if they feel unwell. 

 

Update: 6.00pm Wednesday 26 May 2021

The University took swift action to protect our community and deep cleaning has now been undertaken in line with our rigorous COVIDSafe plan. 

Anyone identified as a Tier 1 or Tier 2 close contact has been notified and directed to seek testing and isolate until they have a negative result.

Subject to approval from the Department of Health, we anticipate Building 56 and 57 will be open as normal from Friday 28 May.

All other classes and activities across our many buildings and spaces are continuing as scheduled.

Any impacted students are being contacted with alternative arrangements. 

All RMIT staff and students are required to complete a COVIDSafe module before attending campus and a daily health declaration. In line with current Victorian Government guidelines, masks are compulsory in all indoor spaces at any RMIT campus.

RMIT can confirm that an external contractor who attended RMIT’s Building 56 (Level 2) at Queensberry St Carlton on Friday 21 May between 8.00am and 10.30am has tested positive for COVID-19. The building has been listed as a Tier 2 exposure site. 

RMIT and the Department of Health (DOH) have notified the Tier 1 close contact who is now isolating for 14 days and seeking testing. Any person identified as a Tier 2 close contact is also being contacted and directed to seek testing and isolate until they have a negative result.

As an additional precaution any person in Building 56 or the adjoining Building 57 on 21 May outside of 8.00am and 10:30am, are being advised to get tested and monitor for symptoms.

Classes in Buildings 56 and Building 57 have been cancelled on Wednesday 26 May only to allow deep cleaning activities to be undertaken.  

All other classes and activities across our many buildings and spaces are continuing as scheduled on Wednesday 26 May.
