Professor Aleks Subic to depart RMIT

Professor Aleks Subic, Deputy Vice-Chancellor STEM College and Vice-President Digital Innovation has announced he will leave RMIT to take up the role of Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Aston University (UK).

An internationally recognised leader, academic and innovator, Professor Subic has dedicated almost 20 years to RMIT across two tenures.

He was Executive Dean of Engineering and Head of School, School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from 1997-2015 and then rejoined RMIT in 2020 as DVC for STEM College and Vice-President Digital Innovation.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Alec Cameron said Professor Subic had achieved tremendous impact in all his roles at RMIT. 

“Aleks’ tireless commitment to generating positive student experiences has been critical during the pandemic when it was more challenging than ever to make expectation reality. 

“His leadership and focus on digital innovation in Australia and Vietnam have seen growth in our research, an innovative approach to learning, teaching and collaboration, and the progressive partnerships and precincts that underpin many firsts in this space,” Professor Cameron said.  

“Whatever Aleks does, he does it with a determination that inclusion and excellence go hand in hand.”

Professor Subic will remain at RMIT until June this year before commencing in his new role at Aston University in August 2022.
