White Brick Studio: simulating real studio practice during study

The White Brick Studio is a simulated industry studio that emulates the experience of an industry workspace. It is embedded into RMIT's vocational education Interior Design and Visual Merchandising Programs.

Video produced by Arielle Lee and Sebastian Nordstrom.

Nancy Everingham and Jenny Crowley, Program Coordinator and Course Coordinator respectively, oversee the design and delivery of the White Brick Studio into RMIT's Interior Design and Decoration/Visual Merchandising courses.

Through the White Brick Studio class, students' work and assessments are aligned to current industry requirements through application of the policies, procedures and systems used in a real-world design studio.

Additionally, they gain a practical understanding of the structures and ways of working within a design studio. bringing an authentic and applied lens to their studies.

Maddie Granata, VE Teacher, Interior Design and Decoration / Visual Merchandising, highlights the opportunities this unique learning experience provides to students.

"It really gives them (the students) the mindset of getting ready to go into an office understanding the systems in place and then using their design skills to provide the interior design services they're learning."

Watch the video below to hear from Jenny and Nancy, students Emily and Eva, and interior design teacher, Maddie, about the benefits of the White Brick Studio.
