Protest activity in Melbourne CBD, Thursday 12 February

There is protest activity anticipated in the Melbourne CBD on Thursday 12 February. If you are in the city for classes or study, your commute may be disrupted.

RMIT students are advised that there is protest activity anticipated in the Melbourne CBD tomorrow afternoon, Thursday 12 February, to coincide with the state visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

RMIT Security is working closely with Victoria Police to understand planned activities.

There is likely to be a large protest group that will gather at Flinders Street Station. The protest will commence at 5.00pm and, at this stage, is expected to move from the station along Swanston Street, turning at Bourke Street, then heading towards Parliament. This route could change ahead of the protest.

While we anticipate some disruption to city traffic and tram services, we do not expect a direct impact to RMIT’s City campus. As a precaution, we will increase security staffing across the campus and continue to monitor the situation closely. If you are on campus and feel unsafe at any time, please contact RMIT Security using the SafeZone App or by calling 9925 3333.

If you are in the city tomorrow for classes, please be aware that your commute may be disrupted. Please reach out to your Program or Course Co-ordinator if you have any concerns.

We understand that this situation may be impacting you and your community in different ways. RMIT remains deeply committed to protecting the right of every member of our community to learn, interact and participate fully in university life, with a clear sense that they are welcome, they are safe, and they belong. We ask that you continue to show respect, compassion and care for one another.

Please remember that a range of support services are available for you to access.
