Australian Goalball Championships 2026

Experience goalball at the highest national level when the Australian Goalball Championships come to RMIT’s Bundoora campus from 1 to 4 October. RMIT students and staff can volunteer at the event or come along to support the competitors.

About the championships

The Australian Goalball Championships are coming to RMIT Bundoora for four days of national-level competition. RMIT students and staff can volunteer or attend for free to see some of Australia’s leading players in action.

What is goalball?

Goalball is a team sport for athletes who are blind or have low vision. Wearing blackout eyeshades, players use the sound of bells inside the ball to track its movement and defend their goal.

Games are played in silence while the ball is in motion, creating a distinctive and intense atmosphere for players and spectators.

Event details

• Dates: Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 October 2026
• Time: Approximately 9 am to 6 pm daily, with different finishing times on Sunday
• Location: RMIT University Bundoora Sports Centre, 203 McKimmies Road, Bundoora, Victoria 3083
• Cost: Free for spectators

Information for spectators

Spectators are welcome to attend throughout the championships at no cost.

As goalball relies on auditory cues, spectators must remain quiet while play is underway. Opportunities to applaud and celebrate will be provided after play has stopped.

Be part of a national sporting event by volunteering at the Australian Goalball Championships.

A range of roles is available, including goal judge, timer, scorekeeper, commentator and general event support. No previous goalball experience is required, and volunteers will receive a briefing and guidance before beginning their role. Flexible shifts are available for part or full days. With free lunch provided for volunteers who are doing a full day.
