Overview

Sketchup Intermediate will take your Sketchup skills to the next level. This course is suitable for people with prior 3D experience of other programs such as AutoCAD, 3ds Max, Revit, Rhino, Alias, Cinema4D, ArchiCAD or Maya and to those who have already learned some basic techniques in Sketchup. Sketchup is the fastest, easiest 3D modelling program available. It comes in two versions - Sketchup Make and Sketchup Pro. The Sketchup Make version is completely free!

Course content

  • Advanced hip roof; Materials on multiple faces
  • Resizing and repositioning materials; Calculating floor area
  • Working with grids; Creating text; Precise resizing
  • Fascia boards; Follow Me tool in depth; Components in depth
  • Modelling terrain; Dormer windows; Printing to scale
  • Simple, symbolic trees; Solid modelling
  • Layers; Spiral staircase; Sections
  • Photo match; Creating animations
  • Exporting animations

Prerequisites

Experience in one or more of the following: AutoCAD, 3DS Max, Revit, Rhino, Alias, Cinema4D, ArchiCAD or Maya, is recommended for this intermediate course.

Materials supplied

Materials required for the course will be provided. All relevant course notes are supplied with comprehensive instructions and exercises.

Materials to bring

Pen, paper and/or laptop for note taking.

Suited to

Best suited to people with prior 3D experience eg AutoCAD, Revit, 3DS Max, Rhino, ArchiCAD, Alias, Cinema 4D, Maya. For those wanting to learn Sketchup for modelling, and then learn 3DS Max for rendering and animation.

Outcome

Graduates of the Sketchup Intermediate course will be able to create complex objects including landscapes, add dimensions and text notes, print their models either in perspective or to scale and create and export animations.
Upon finishing the course you will receive a RMIT Certificate of Completion. You can use this as a record to demonstrate the outcomes covered in the course.

Facilitator: Joseph Brabet

Joseph Brabet has an Architecture degree and has been teaching people how to use 3D design software for over 20 years. He has worked in Architecture, Graphic Design, Product Design and Multimedia Design in Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Germany and France. In addition to teaching design at RMIT and Swinburne Universities, Joseph is a professional photographer.
