The nature of library has changed significantly in recent years. In a university setting, the library’s role has shifted from a repository of books to a critical part of our student support infrastructure. In parallel, the community library has also evolved dramatically from a quiet reading room to bustling hubs of activity and information.

As part of the RMIT Living Places Plan ‘Demonstration Projects’, we are looking at the evolution of library through a series of Design Studios within the School of Architecture and Urban Design.

To develop this dialogue with our students, we are hosting a small symposium that will bring together librarians and architects to discuss the idea of a library in a contemporary university and local community.

Lyons, ARM Architecture and Antarctica will present their libraries alongside their clients – the librarians from RMIT, University of Melbourne and City of Geelong.

We anticipate an engaging and collegiate discussion.

Venue: Rocking Chair Lounge, building 12, level 6.
