This lecture and conversation with visiting thought leader John Penn is open to all RMIT staff. Drawing on his work with governments, educational institutions, and initiatives such as the Content Authenticity Initiative, John will examine the opportunities and risks associated with AI adoption, including ethical decision-making, governance frameworks, misinformation, digital evidence, and the growing importance of trust in digital environments. He will discuss how technology is being used in investigations to combat crimes, such as child exploitation and misinformation, and how those same lessons apply to responsible AI use in education.
This session will also explore the importance of digital literacy, content authentication and ethical leadership in shaping future professionals.

With more than 40 years of experience in software development, including 25 years at Adobe contributing to products such as Photoshop, John brings a unique perspective spanning technological innovation, digital forensics, content authenticity, and child protection.
