Partnership renewal with the Melbourne Renegades to include Women’s team for first time

The Big Bash League (BBL) competition is back and RMIT is again part of the action as the Official Community Partner and Official Education Provider of the Melbourne Renegades, which has grown to include the Women’s BBL.

RMIT Chief Marketing Officer Chaminda Ranasinghe said the University was thrilled to renew its partnership with the Renegades for the 2019/2020 season to include the Women’s Big Bash.

“We’re particularly excited to announce the partnership includes the WBBL team this season, with the University’s extension of its support of the Renegades," Ranasinghe said.

“After the Renegades’ first ever championship win in the inaugural year of our partnership, we saw ourselves as a bit of a good luck charm, so our re-signing is a double celebration for the Renegades and RMIT.

“RMIT is now even more connected to Melbourne’s vibrant, world-class sporting scene thanks to the addition of the Women’s team, further positioning RMIT as the university of choice for a quality student experience in Melbourne."

Renegades General Manager of Commercial David Lever said the continued support came at an important time in the evolution of the competition.

“We’re delighted to enhance our partnership with RMIT after the success of last season,” Lever said.

“Our shared pursuit of excellence and commitment to regional communities make this partnership a natural fit.

“The support for the WBBL team comes at an important time, with the Women’s Big Bash competition shifting to a standalone season for the first time.

“We’d like to thank Chaminda and RMIT more broadly for their continued support and we look forward to continuing to grow our partnership,” he said.

RMIT continues to provide students with a transformative student experience. As part of the Renegades’ sponsorship, students will have the opportunity to take part in an ambassador program, and a range of unique opportunities.

News of the partnership follows the Renegades WBBL win against Perth Scorchers, their second for the season.

As a benefit of the partnership, staff, students, and alumni of RMIT receive a 10% discount on Renegades Double Up, or Access Red membership.
