Kaplan Singapore students return to RMIT after three years

The School of Engineering has hosted 60 Kaplan Singapore students for a one-week learning program after a three-year hiatus.

Kaplan Singapore has been an international partner of RMIT since 2015, with a strong focus on the field of engineering.

As part of this partnership, students from Kaplan Singapore could come on a one-week residential visit to the RMIT Melbourne and Bundoora campuses, complete with on-campus workshops and field trips to RMIT’s industry partners.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students were unable to participate in this important aspect of their learning in person for three years.

Sixty students from Kaplan Singapore have been welcomed back to Melbourne, where they explored RMIT’s city campus, gained practical hands-on experience in the exciting Control and Dynamics, Thermodynamics and Vibration laboratories, and toured the RMIT Advanced Manufacturing Precinct (AMP).

Neng Zhang, a research assistant in the School of Engineering, coordinated the one-week learning program. He highlighted the benefits of the residential visit for the students from Kapan Singapore.

“For a complete industry-relevant experience, RMIT has incorporated a residential visit as a means for students to observe firsthand how theoretical concepts are applied in real-world situations,” he said.

“This visit provides valuable, hands-on experiences and demonstrations, essential to enhancing student learning and future employability.”

The AMP tour was a key feature of the residential visit as the precinct recently expanded to include three new facilities late in 2022. “Students are able to immerse themselves in advanced and innovative technologies, greatly expanding their horizons and inspiring future career paths.”

“This visit provides valuable, hands-on experiences and demonstrations, essential to enhancing student learning and future employability,” he said.

This residential visit represents the strength of RMIT’s international collaboration with Kaplan Singapore.

“The residential visit provides students with a culture of hands-on and practical, which is very important for a successful career,” he said.
