RMIT expands Southeast Asia presence with Indonesia creative industries partnership

RMIT has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indonesian government, during a visit that signals the University’s deepening presence and partnerships in the region.

RMIT Vice-President International Layton Pike signed the agreement with The Ministry of Creative Economy (EKRAF). 

The MoU will support greater collaboration in programs and activities across games, film, animation, music, digital technology, cultural arts, and design, building a stronger creative industries ecosystem between the nations.

“We have been working together for some time, and this marks an important step in strengthening our partnership while enhancing support for Indonesia’s creative economy,” RMIT Vice-President International Layton Pike said. 

“It reflects the uniqueness of the collaboration we are building as well as the approach RMIT brings to this partnership. We are also committed to expanding RMIT’s presence in Jakarta to further enhance our ambitions and contributions following the signing of this MoU in the years ahead.”

During the visit, Deputy Vice-Chancellor College of Vocational Education Mish Eastman also co-chaired a roundtable on the gaming and animation workforce. 

It brought together policymakers, industry representatives, and education partners to exchange perspectives and discuss opportunities for collaboration.   

“It was a privilege to co-chair such a vibrant and impactful discussion about the future needs of the growing workforce at the centre of the creative industry in Indonesia,” Ms Eastman said.

“We welcome the opportunity to work in deep collaboration with EKRAF to deliver specialised skill development pathways to enable local creators and studios to participate more fully in the global digital creative economy. 

“RMIT University’s city campus is located within the heart of Australia’s creative industry in Melbourne. We're excited to share the learnings from our local context combined with our expertise in vocational education with Ekraf and work in partnership to ensure this next era of the creative economy is agile, sustainable and globally competitive.”
