Dr Edgar Gomez
Dr Gomez’s research focuses on the role of digital media in different cultural settings to understand the interrelationship between technologies, practices and culture.
Visual culture; photography; ethnography; new media.
This knowledge is then translated into the areas of smart technologies, cities and sustainability. His research is underpinned by a number of interrelated research themes including identity, socialisation and communication through digital mediations, creativity and cultural fields in the digital era and visual and digital culture. His interdisciplinary approach is to understand the politics of interface-algorithms and social technical practices in the constitution of everyday life.
Dr Gomez’s main interest relates to screen cultures and digital ethnography methods. The orientation of his approach is towards collaborative and dialogic international exchange beyond academia, to involve other stakeholders such as artists, innovators, local organisations and software developers with the aim to create a broader impact to his research.
Dr Gomez was awarded a Vice-Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2015 and is based in the School of Media and Communication.
