Research facilities
Permanently installed at the RMIT University Bundoora campus and launched in 2018, the RMIT Robotic Optical Observatory (ROO) Telescope facility was set up in partnership with the Universities of Minnesota and Arizona.
The 16 inch telescope has a 16-megapixel monochrome CCD camera that can produce sub-arcsecond angular resolution to track space debris, satellites, asteroids and other objects and measure their movement and trajectories.
The telescope is housed in a 3m diameter automated dome, enabling recording when the conditions are clear and protection against the elements when they are not.
The GNSS station is continuously operating at the RMIT University Bundoora Campus. The GNSS station was set up in 2013 collaboration with the Victorian State Government, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Wuhan University.
The facility is currently contributing data to the Victorian state wide GPSnet infrastructure network supporting precise GNSS positioning in Victoria.
