Do you have an idea that could make RMIT an even better place to study, work or connect? Apply for funding of up to $10,000 to bring it to life.

In 2027, RMIT will celebrate 140 years of innovation, creativity and real-world impact. This is an exciting opportunity to celebrate our rich history, recognise the people and communities that have shaped RMIT, and look ahead to the next chapter of our journey.

Throughout 2027, we will host a program of activities and events for students, staff, alumni, industry partners and broader community.

RMIT is inviting students and staff to submit innovative ideas for community-led projects that bring people together, foster a sense of belonging and enhance life at RMIT.

A total of 14 successful projects will receive funding of up to $10,000 (AUD) to bring their project to life in 2027.

This is your opportunity to help shape RMIT's 140th anniversary celebrations and leave a lasting legacy for our community.

We're seeking ideas that:

  • Bring people together and strengthen community connections
  • Build capability, skills and opportunities for learning
  • Support wellbeing, belonging and inclusion
  • Create lasting benefits for staff and students
  • Celebrate the people, ideas and impact that define RMIT

Applications will be assessed against a set of criteria, with funding awarded to projects that demonstrate the greatest potential to deliver meaningful community impact (see key criteria below).

This competition is open to RMIT staff (in Australia, Vietnam and Europe) and current RMIT vocational education (TAFE) and higher education (undergraduate and postgraduate) students studying in Australia and Vietnam (excluding students of RMIT UP and students studying with partner institutes outside Australia).

Entries may be submitted individually or as a team.

Projects will:

  • Strengthen engagement and connection across the communities that we exist to serve – tell the story of 140 years of contribution.
  • Showcase RMIT’s unique impact – always adapting and changing with the times.
  • Recognise and celebrate our diverse community – build a shared sense of belonging and pride in RMIT’s contribution.
  • Deliver meaningful value – leverage the anniversary year to build new platforms for engagement that will continue well into the future.

Projects should deliver one or more of the following criteria:

  • Educational and career opportunities
  • Talent and workforce solutions
  • New knowledge and increased skills
  • Cultural creation and contribution
  • Connection and growth
  • Purpose, meaning and impact
  • Innovation and productivity
  • Place-based social and economic development.
